Playground Asphalt

Playground asphalt is a practical hard surface for larger areas such as school playgrounds and car parks that can withstand years of heavy use.

Traditionally used in almost every school, asphalt provides a very durable surface with low cost maintenance. In addition it ensures you can keep play areas in use all year round.

Asphalt surfacing is a very long lasting surface. If the top layer, or wearing course, becomes degraded over time, the base course is usually still perfectly stable. Therefore we install a wearing course layer as an overlay using the existing surface as a base course, restoring playgrounds to a safe standard for a relatively low cost.

Coloured Asphalt

Asphalt is available in a range of colours. Also, we can paint the standard black surface with a specialist anti-slip coating in many different colours. Both options are a cost-effective way of creating sports pitches or zoning areas.

Drainage

Drainage is obviously a very important consideration with all playground surfaces. With this in mind, we design and install bespoke drainage systems to suit the particular surface characteristics of your play area.

Asphalt Installation

Firstly, we excavate the area to a specified depth and lay a geo-textile membrane for ground stabilisation and weed suppression. Secondly, we install a stone sub base and compacted to the specified depth, followed by a 50 – 60mm base course of asphalt and also a 25 – 30mm top coat using finer-grade asphalt.

Asphalt Surfacing Overlay

Where the existing base layer is sound and drainage falls are acceptable, an asphalt overlay is a certainly a cost-effective way to restore worn surfaces to a safe standard.

Existing ironworks are rebedded, and bitumen emulsion applied to the existing surface to ensure a sound bond between the original surface and the new overlay.
